Bombardier Aerospace First OEM to Win Installation Approval for Honeywell Primus Elite LCD Cockpit Upgrade on Global 5000, Global Express and Global Express XRS Aircraft

May 4, 2010 — Montréal

Bombardier Aerospace announced today that it is the first OEM to receive a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC), in conjunction with Honeywell, to install Primus Elite DU-875 Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) upgrades for Global 5000, Global Express and Global Express XRS aircraft. The new STC system is now available for in-service Global aircraft customers and will also be offered as an option on new aircraft.

The Honeywell Primus Elite flight deck will initially include XM® graphical weather, Jeppesen® electronic charts and maps, video playback capability and high resolution LCD displays through a cursor-driven, on-screen interface. The high-resolution graphics rendered by the Primus Elite displays will be capable of displaying Honeywell’s SmartView™ synthetic vision system, which is planned for future certification.

“This upgrade will be very beneficial to Global aircraft operators,” said Tom Manderson, Test Pilot, Bombardier Aerospace, who assisted in the validation of the STC at Bombardier’s Dallas Service Centre. “I was impressed by the crispness of the displayed image, and the graphical weather map features will provide enhanced situational awareness to flight crews,” he added.

Global Express aircraft equipped with Primus Elite will require no cockpit panel modifications, limited wiring changes and no additional pilot training, saving the operator acquisition and maintenance costs,” said Chad Cundiff, Vice President of Crew Interface Products, Honeywell Aerospace. “This upgrade will enhance the flight capability of Global aircraft, allowing them to take advantage of new capabilities being added to today’s and future international flight environments.”

Installation requires approximately three weeks of downtime and can be performed at Bombardier’s Business Aircraft Service Centres in Dallas, Texas, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Hartford, Connecticut and Tucson, Arizona, as well as at Bombardier Authorized Service Facilities for Global aircraft.
